TrackMania Sunrise is by favourite game in the TrackMania series, and I would say that it's the last full game Nadeo made.
The issues with getting TrackMania Sunrise to run on modern OSes seem to be related to the Starforce DRM, which people haven't been able to remove from the game itself, rendering the game completely unplayable for everyone unless they do something like use a virtual machine for Windows Vista.
So, if the Starforce DRM could be removed from the game, then we could play our copies of TMS on our modern OSes (note that bypassing DRM to access software you own is legal in Europe and the US).
Well, the NSA has recently made open source a tool called Ghidra that reverse-engineers compiled software.
The Nsa Makes Ghidra, a Powerful Cybersecurity Tool, Open Source
The NSA released the tool to help people combat cyber-security threats. But, the tool can be used for other things, and from what I've heard from someone much more knowledgeable on the matter than myself, it can also be used to remove Starforce from TMS.
I don't know how to do it, but perhaps there is someone out there who does know.
So, maybe we will eventually get to play TMS + Extreme once again, this time in our modern OSes. I hope so.
New hope for getting TMS to work on modern OSes?

there a youtube video on how to do that (without a virtual machine) and it works [this is my master pc and i have TMSX installed + it fully works without StarForce bootlooping on startup]
