Big Geordie Mark II

Post by El Fuego » 01 Nov 2010 16:29

Some of you may be familiar with the Big Geordie chat bot plugin I wrote quite some time ago (and which Ant tweaked to work correctly with the latest incarnation of Xaseco). In that linked thread someone asked about whether Big Geordie could speak and understand languages other than English. (Obviously he can - he speaks English and Geordie). :mrgreen:

That got me thinking about how he could be improved, to accept multiple languages. This thread is a placeholder to say I am looking at this. I know how I want to do this (let the server owner define the language in the plugin) and I have a working English version at my Big Geordie server (in GBR) - for both general chat and swearing. I'll create other language versions (probably German, Spanish, French and Italian at first) and then post back here looking for peer-review of the language structure. (Google Translate will probably be my friend for the initial translations). :mrgreen:

UPDATE: 2nd November 2010

And here it is folks! :) Big Geordie Mark II is available as a ZIP file here. I have reproduced the readme.txt file below.

Code: Select all

Big Geordie bot plugin, Mark II
By .FUEY.
November 2nd, 2010

What is it?
-----------
A chat plugin for the Xaseco server controller used with the
Trackmania Forever dedicated server

What does it do?
----------------
Provides a means to
	Kick players whose ladder rank exceeds a defined value
	Warn or kick players who use offensive language in the chat
	Provide automated server responses when certain keywords are found in player chat

How is it different to the original Big Geordie?
------------------------------------------------
The mark II version has been revised to more easily allow
other languages than English to be configured and used

How do I install it?
--------------------
1. Unzip the contents of BigGeordieMkII.zip to the plugins folder in the Xaseco controller folder
	biggeordie.php is in the plugins folder
	The other files are in the bglangs sub-folder of the plugins folder

2. Update biggeordie.php to:
	a. Determine the language to be used (line 11)
		de = German
		en = English
		es = Spanish
		fr = French
		it = Italian
		Other languages can be easily created by using the provided files as templates
	b. Edit the rank player-kick message to your language (line 38)
	c. Edit the BGBOT command messages to you language (lines 62, 63, 64, 85 and 89)

3. Edit the xx.swear.php and xx.bgchat.php files (xx = language from step 2a) to suit your own needs
	Additional swear words, chat text keywords and responses can be easily added by following the examples

4. Edit the plugins.xml file in the main Xaseco folder to include the following line:

	<plugin>biggeordie.php</plugin>

5. Stop Xaseco (if it is running) and then restart it. And that should be it. :-)

What if I have any questions or problems?

And why do you post it in the Toolbox forum when it's for XAseco?

Because it may also work on Aseco. And the original thread is in this forum too. (Some of us have eyes and can scan down the page a few threads). :roll:

So, if you haven't got anything constructive to offer, go chase some traffic. :P

Actually, it is entirely not compatible with Aseco v2.x at all.. A port would be easy enough, though the current RASP chatbot proves equally as redundant.

I'll be trying it soon, i'll let you know how it goes :)

Edit: From looking at it, I can see it will be very good for people who need it in the other languages but I don't think there is much point in me changing from the original plugin to this as it looks like it will have pretty much the same functionality.

I gotta say again though, for anyone wanting to use this bot in the other languages, I highly recommend downloading this version - nice work man :thumbsup:

Cheers Ant.

Yeah - there's no real new functionality for English instances. The real benefit comes from making it easy to implement other languages. Though keeping the language packs separate can allow you to build alternative versions and simply swap them in when you feel like it - it doesn't need a restart of Xaseco as the bot responses are called OnChat. :)

Do you mean you only want it to respond to certain logins and not everyone who visits the server ?

Random question here .... Does the chatbot only respond to typed messages from players or can I get it to respond for example when a tracks name appears ? I've created a FS drifting server and I want a brief description of tracks to appear when it's either jukeboxed or comes up in it's normal order.
