TM-FORUM

Hey all.

I'm in the process of setting up a TMN server. Basically me and the company I'm testing it for are complete newbies when it comes to TMN.

I was looking for anyone who can help me set it up. I can give Game Control Panel access to anyone that can help.

Before you request free help when you're doing it for a company use the f***ing search function and have at least a look at the forum you're posting in.

Do you really mean TM Nations or do you want a server for TM Nations Forever?

What have you tried so far? I can live with such thread titles, but either the OP forgot to include the answer to this question in his post or he didn't do his homework. Whatever it is, you can't expect good answers to questions like this. (And I get angry because I want this one minute of my life I wasted reading the post back.)

If someone is able to find the "right" forum for his "problem" and goes through the hassle to register an account there, how complicated can it be to do a quick search before?

The search funtion can often be too busy or return to many results you know? ...There is nothing wrong with pointing someone to using the forum properly but using "starred out expletives" like f**king is not the most tactfull and/or polite way of doing things,

ie: get off that high horse and have a little tollerence.

i'm with Knutselmaaster in that respect

now keep it friendly please, insultive and condesending advice is worse than getting no help atall!

I did indeed use the search function on the forums and tried searching all the help files for multiple remote admin tools to no avail. I thought a professional forum like this would appreciate having people come HERE and not to rando community forums that have no affiliation with TM. I wasn't expecting the first reply, but thanks for at least giving me the links

I was quite silly to not realise that TM forums would also have members that took everything too seriously and don't understand that people sometimes do need a little help.

I never asked for free help and first person to put their hand up would have been paid for specifics for what we are looking for. However by not putting it in there, I know the people who will actually help for the fact of helping and I'm glad to pay these people to allow specific instructions for my server etc and already having put quite a lot into my forums another couple of hundred won't hurt. After all, getting this set up will allow us to also allow INSTANT setup to ANYONE who wants to run their very own TM servers. This means more people playing TM all I can see there is a massive bonus for two sides. Thats the way I do things, the internet is not a free world, thats why I have paid my way since 2000. You have to spend it to make it

Keep in mind that not everyone has a good day every day. On more than a few occasions I too have answered with somewhat acidic replies that are far from my norm.

In general, setting up a server requires the following:
- TMFServer program (unzip to a directory somewhere that's easy to get to), it can be found in the Announcement topics in this forum
- A Server controller (ASECO, XASECO or similar)
- PHP 5.3.x installed and working properly
- MySQL 5.1 installed and working properly

After that it's a matter of tweaking config options between the server & the controller program.

The server will sit and run fine by itself once you get it set up, but the controller makes it more fun to use (records & other in game info).

Yup is a fair point, i have had to edit some of mine personally after i think "oh cmon man calm down he only needs a hand"

I guess we all have our moments, but it's nice to keep it all as communicable and friendly as we can, i am sure no grudges are held by any party, as you say it's "one of those things"

i mean...sorry if my first reply was not so nice... but i still haven't got the slightest clue of what your problem is...

If you are from a company that sets up servers, running the program and configuring the required ports in the router should be the easiest of tasks. But something is wrong apparantly, and you require help.

No problem there, but what is it you're struggling with? what are you trying to achieve? what is not going the way you wanted/expected? I can probably help you with anything you could possibly have a problem with. I've set up some servers myself, helped out someone once who had problems with his server provider, communicating to that provider what was required/missing, how things had to be set up there. I have a master degree in CS, so i know quite a bit of networks, at least more than enough to diagnose most problems when setting up a server, and i've even written my own server controller code, so if none of the existant servercontrollers offer what you need, i could even make that

but i still don't know what it is you want... which is why i said what i said in my first reply, also the reason we have that sticky. describe what you want to do, what you tried, and where it is going wrong, and we'll help you figure out how to get where you want to get . Until this point you've had no help in this thread mainly since we don't have a clue what the problem is... people pointed you to some of our tutorial threads, but i doubt finding those was your problem...

Luckily this has turned to a discussion "tm-forum-style", open and respectfull.
Sorry if i offended svens or Racemaniac with my answer, i was just a bit shocked and have had some bad news earlier on that day.

The search function on this forum has never given me an answer to my questions, there are too much posts and it is just not powerfull enough.
The best results you get using google, including tm-forum in your search request.

Back on topic;
If you need a server all set up the easiest way try usb tm server, with that as a base you can easily elaborate your knowledge by changing things here and there.
After that setting up a server from scratch with all elements you want in their latest versions will be no problem anymore.

if the search function of the forum is not good enough for you, consider simply using google.
