MANIACHANNELS

Post by Florent » 10 Jun 2008 12:20

Before making a more official announcement, we want to present ManiaChannels

This technology is designed to provide stream of matches or data to players. It is mainly the ability to connect relay servers:
1. TV for competitions. You can make an external link to your server relay and people will connect directly and see the main server competitor on race.
2. P2P power up with the relay server acting like a client. So when a relay is connected to your play, you will experience accelerated transfers.

I think it will grow at a point where I connect to one of this relay server and enjoy the time of watching and discussing with others. On the first example, you can only chat between people on the relay server, even if you see the main servers chat.

You can connect to watch the races here
Click here to watch [200 viewers max]
Click here to play Restricted to players between 20K and 60K ladder points. [40 players max]

Could anyone explain this feature to me? I don't see anything when I connect to the posted server, and I get ignored by the people on the server. I'm asking since 5 minutes how maniachannels works, everyone sais how cool it is, but I see absolutely nothing and noone replies :grmblz:  Even Hylis who's on the server to show the feature to the players... I've really better ways to waste my time.

Hylis: Racers can't see specators at the moment. This is TV man, relax ^_^ This way, we can easily watch all ET matches without causing lags to competition server. :1

Uhh, I clicked on the link for 200 players that Florent posted, and it opened my TMUF in windowed mode, joined a server, and I watched some noobs racing and talking
Sounds very much the same as you.. If you've ever used G4TV for Quake3, or HLTV for CS, you'll understand how this works.. Although I'm not sure if you can interact with other spectators or not.

I am relaxxed ^^ But noone explained the feature anywhere... I came on the server, everyone said "wowowowow how nice" and I saw absolutely nothing ^^
So I ask again: How does it work, and how do I enable that feature?

It was just a test/presentation
Before making a more official announcement, we want to present ManiaChannels
I'm sure documentation/more info will come with the official announcement.

as i understand it it's actually a bit like a cross between shoutcast and the dedicated server, it puts up a 'satelite' connection to a relay station that will bring the feed to your "home tv"pretty much like cable tv vendors do it. So you don't really clog the server being a direct spectator, but the server broadcasts the data back to an external app ?

so do i understand it right if it's a bit like "dislocated spectator mode?"
