Server lagging... badly!

Hey,

I have recently setup a TMU-F server on my dedicated server. It is a AMD6000+ dual core, 4gbram and hosted on a 100mbit connection, although speedtest gets around 50mb download and 30/40 upload.

I have had a TM server running on it before (about 6 months ago) which ran fine, but this time it just wont work.. The server starts up fine, loads etc. However, everytime someone joins to test, every lap time is invalid and the time skips like no tommorow, I noticed the sky graphics also jump about.

I don't have any idea what is going on, anyone help?

Just found by using servermania that the UpTime also jumps from 10 seconds to 1 minute 50 odd, then 4 minutes etc etc. Really...really...really strange..

What version of the dedicated server are you using..? Have you tried disabling the server's p2p and emptying the cache folder (sometimes a corrupt avatar or skin can cause such a problem)

Post your config.cfg file with the passwords edited out, then maybe we can spot any obvious problems.

Also, have you tried running a server without Servermania? I used it myself at first years back, but abandoned it due to numerous unfixed bugs that drastically affected stability and performance.

Probably a problem with the cache. Have you installed any additional plugins or mods? Are you running the server with a controller like aseco? As Nocturne suggested, try running it without servermania. Also include your server logfile please.

I can answer a few question for Floppy cause i help im a bit.

Tried different version of dedicated server even last one (beta)
Same problem.

No xaseco or any other rec manager just plain server with servermania.

P2P off or on makes no change.

cache should be empty, new server.

I have a couple of server running with servermania and have never seen problem like that.

Just to make things clearer, seems like time is going a lot faster than it should be, if we want a map to last at least a few minutes we have to setup Time Limit to a few hours.

for config.cfg file with the passwords edited out, will have to wait for Floppy.

That's a huge cache size, have you tried lowering that back down to at least 600?

The cache size is irrelevant, as P2P is disabled...

Though it'd be worthwhile to try running the server without Servermania, I don't quite think it could be the cause as it doesn't 'hook' the server process -- just simple xml-rpc.

The way you describe the problem, it seems more indicative of a more sinister bug hiding somewhere in the dedserver executable itself. Sounds like a clocklimit issue -- the server is running out of control with nothing to hold it back.

It'd probably be worthwhile to post a dxdiag report or sysinfo dump, and notify xbx of this thread... Something about your specific setup is probably the root of the issue.

sounds like its the (known) multicore issue. try binding server (not servermania) to a certain core

Problem solved, set the CPU affient to CPU 1 only and its working a treat.
