Dedicated Server for TMF "2008-04-18"

Post by xbx » 18 Apr 2008 18:57

Here is the dedicated for Trackmania United Forever and Trackmania Nations Forever.

You can download it from
http://files2.trackmaniaforever.com/Tra ... -04-18.zip
or
http://files2.trackmaniaforever.com/Tra ... -04-18.tgz

(both contain the same files, and windows and linux executable.)

no changes from 2008-04-16,
Just a few bugfixes and tunings, for the issues revealed by having the 200+ players servers..

Also, a new option in dedicated_cfg.txt: <p2p_cache_size>600</p2p_cache_size>
In what unit is that number, MB?

ah that's true, I forgot this.
didn't test much, though.
It's in MB, yes. (600 is the defaut)

sorry, wrong word. "optimizations" really.
(to the CPU usage.)

well it's just "fun"... "euphoric", frantic, "too much"...
and because we can! :D

but I agree it's just fun for a short while..

(and because it allows me to debug rare bugs...)

Thanks because I'm running a TMF server and for 50 players, it uses 60 to 70% of the CPU!! That's huge!

But I don't understand why it lowers to under 10 regulary before that. (Linux version)

I will upgrade tomorrow, hope I will get 50 players then.

Yes, but beware that slight physics differences between TMN and TMU(F)/TMNF can make some of them harder or impossible (e.g. with PF starts) to drive.

Hmm good job, for 50 players now I'm getting 40% max! (CPU usage) :gobananas:

So it lowered around 20-30% between the 2008-04-16 version and the 2008-04-18

Are there any debug version available for this version?
I just set up an all envi server, running in the same directory as our stadium server,
and it crashes regularly... No errors in the ConsoleLog, last lines are always just
that the next map was successfully loaded and thats it.

Btw. nothing serious, but I realized that my php script loses connection to the
server from time to time, nothing too bad as i can just reconnect and the
chance of having lost some important callback in that time is low, but still,
it didn't happen for united. Oh yeah, in both cases it happened for a multicall,
might there be a maximum packet size to the server?

Can i be contrary (again) and say that I like my nations server to have 200+ users? It's just massive, useless in competition yes, but massive, and because of that I think it's cool, and it's not for the race anymore really because it's laggy. And well: all the reasons cancel eachother out and what's left is that it's just humorous :)

Ofcourse, on my united server I'd set my limit to 30. But my servers arn't meant to be serious competition anyway.

imo these optimizations to the netcode have not been made for me to be all conservative and say "hey, the average trackmania server should be 6 ppl, becasue I was there from the beginning and it was like that back then

I'd say, relax :)
