You are in a community of players and if you are afraid of cheaters, we have provided some tools to avoid this: you can validate best race of any driver at any time by accessing it's player profile and clicking on validate. If you have a referee, he will do it for you automatically. You can make your community black list, you can kick and you can ban from 'your' server.

For official solo race, we do validate all best scores to check if no hacking occurred. So this is protected. For multiplayer, you can make improvements through dedicated server, but I understand this is complicated to do. But, be aware that only the current "validate" can really solve this for real. If you validate race from somebody else, you can be sure that there is no cheating.

Yeah, the validate command is really useful to track down cheaters, happened to me once when I was on a public server and a player was making suspicious times, and then I just validated it and an error occured and I reported it by the report abuse function.

But I wonder, does the "report abuse" command work? I mean, does nadeo even check reported abuses?

for report abuse, there is the client interface you have and there is all the things we can make on server side. We need to develop more and more this part. We need to develop more and more access software and maybe open to volunteer moderator in the future.

Please explain the validate a little more because i don't really understand yet.

EDIT:
More specific; if we (serveradmins) use the validation tools in the dedi, does this exclude cheating?
If yes how exactly to proceed?

when you use the validate or referee, the other player race is simulated on the validation computer. So, if the result say that it is wrong, it means that the program was hack on the other side. It was a big dev since years to make this function work well in all situation. We even found a new problems that we sorted out in the last beta. Now, we have run a lot of referee and validate, and the function is robust, as Forever was designed for.

Ok, thanks for your reply.

If i understand well you have to use another computer/processor for the referee than the one the dedicated is running on; so a Hyperthreading/multicore processor with the two threads on different cores is sufficient to make it work?

And does it use a lot of resources?

And does just activating referee validation in the dedicated.cfg do the job or is there more to it?

Sorry i ask so much, but i want to put this info in a tutorial on my forums (dutch/french/english) which are visited by a lot of serveradmins and people who search info on how to make a server.

you need a program running to load tracks, collisions information etc.

To launch a client on a command line with the referee, I think you can try:
trackmania.exe /login="accountlogin" /password="password for referee" /joinasreferee="yourserverlogin" /windowless

i got a referee running i think...
Autosave validation replays has to be True on the server.
But i only see "connection of a new spectator" in my serverscreen.
And i let out /windowless to see what the referee does, and all it does is connect.
How can i test if it's actually working (no i'm not going to cheat to try it  )

lol too many team DR's lol ...

btw ...in many old version of fast and old server exe there were bugs relating to checkpoints... im wondering if they could exist again ... i had one once on an fet practice server where i got a 3 second record, as it counted a pass across the checkpoint as a whole lap. This was unintentional and an error of the server.

Could this cheating be related? ...just a thought!

I always thought they were errors of the record keeping plugin (FAST). It usually happened a lot on certain tracks, like some FET tracks.
