Re: Define a good sport!

Many years ago I use to play Quake during lunchtimes at work with a number of colleagues. It became apparent that I only had to be just a tiny bit better than someone else to win consistently. Every time. The only solution that was ever really effective was to set the winning score to no more than ...

Re: Define a good sport!

Entropic, This is a common mistake made by people to mix uncertainty and randomness. I don't say you do it, but some players already tough this about my position. Here are examples: If you remove the loser bracket, you increase the uncertainty, without adding randomness. If you add one or two ultra-...

Re: Define a good sport!

2004 is a long time ago, but I remember a debate about the team mode with the Grouik. It was already about the rules, I was looking for a mode where the team behind can catch up, and it looks like the mode I suggested went well for many years after :) By the way, I just saw that Dustin Bowder, from ...

Re: Define a good sport!

time after time you've proven that you are clueless when it comes to define a good esport. leave it to those who know it and breathe it instead. do yourself and everyone else a favor. and no, i won't apologize for this statement. ok, please apologize for this statement or I will simply never chat w...

Re: Define a good sport!

we are not here to talk about the mode, but simply the quality of a well balanced one. the question you should raise is to know is when you suggest a mode, does it fall between 5 and 10. It can depends of the mode, of the maps, of the number of points, of the number of racers etc. so, in your mode, ...

Re: Define a good sport!

I did not got the feedback from people who voted 1/100 matches or even 'never' I would be interested to see what they think would happen if that what the case, for a tennis match for example? with never, logically, as soon as the competition starts, we know the winner: it is the favorite. would a sp...

Re: Define a good sport!

Training in many other sports is just building up general skills, not as specific as learning a track in TM, so it's hard to draw a general comparison for that one. But it certainly affects the odds. Is an outsider who trained for the specific match more than the champion still an outsider? :D To a...

Re: Define a good sport!

I said "multi lap" map. And since the lap are even easier, maybe it goes in the direction you want. the goal here is not to enter the debate on what has to be done. The goal is to illustrate that we can think in a really constructive way to reach a good environment for competition. And it starts by ...

Re: Define a good sport!

mathematically, it seems right. If we applied this math to TM, we would rather look to have less rounds. To compensate on time, we would look for multi lap map. And if we want to keep the same difficulty for runs, we would decrease the lap difficulty in order to have the same one. This is how we can...

Re: Define a good sport!

I answered 1 / 10, but I think my preference is more between 1/5 and 1/10. If I know there is a tennis quarter of final between the top 20 and top 1, I think I would be more happy to look at the match, if it turns to the advantage of the top 20 one time every 7 times (so I should have answered 5, be...

Re: Define a good sport!

1 every 100 match means that if there is a match each week between the #1 and #20, it would take nearly two years to finally see the #20 wins. Would I be the spectator that follows the national champion ranked 20, I may get bored to look at the matches. So, if people that answered 1 every 100 would ...

Define a good sport!

This is a simple question related to sport in general. For example, in a football match, when it starts, you don't know a lot who is gonna win. You have surely have favorites teams and outsiders, but there are differents odds of wining. In many popular sports, you sometimes see an outsider beats a f...

Re: Freezone Servers

the audience is as high as before and sells are increasing, but that's not the most important part to understand the freezone operation. The goal is to make a model for Nations to continu as long as possible, and it takes time. I will try to cover some questions here, but you should all keep in mind...

Re: Freezone Servers

people can chat when they can race and if they have a paying account, they don't have to wait for one race. If your solution of displaying "Buy TrackMania United Forever now!" was enough, it is SURE that we would prefer this. Why would not we? FYI, this is under testing since two weeks I think and ha...
